A GPON network is capable of transmitting ethernet, TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) as well as ATM traffic. A GPON network consists of  OLT  (Optical Line Terminals), ONU (Optical Network Unit), and a splitter. The splitter will divide the signal when needed.
